"Rosa Wiland Holmes-Winner of The Great Pottery Throw Down: I hope to make pots that stand out and draw you in to explore the shapes, texture and colours. My inspiration comes from the beauty of nature and the landscape, rocky cliffs and smooth waters or the surface of a stone from the garden. They all intrigue me and inspire me to create pots that are abstract and sculptured in their feel and shape."
Rosa Wiland Holmes – ArtistGrowing up on the beautiful island of Bornholm in Denmark I was always inspired by the beauty of nature on the island. Starting out as a Fashion designer, I discovered ceramics seven years ago and have been obsessed ever since. The potential provided by the interaction of clay, oxides and glaze fascinates me and I have attended numerous courses and used every spare moment since to explore these possibilities. Nature provides balance and inspires all my work. The sweeping waves, rocky cliffs, or the smoothness of a stone on the beach. As well as beautiful female shapes and curves. It all ignites my imagination. Immediately I begin to think what materials to use and how to treat them to recreate the colours, textures and essence of what I see.I use different clay to get the effects I am looking for in each piece.I think nature is extraordinary and seek to capture its beauty in my work. I try to create outstanding works of art which draw you in to explore shapes, texture and colours. Above all I seek to communicate my passion for the medium and the landscape that has inspired me.
