"Contemporary ceramics inspired by the American heartland"
Jaya's ceramic art is born from a love of architecture and contemporary visual design. Her inspiration is the American landscape. From barns that anchor rural life to city silhouettes of steel and glass, her eye is drawn to lines and the spaces they define. Each panel consists of many ceramic components, sometimes fired in different kilns for the various finishes, mounted with industrial strength adhesive onto premium basswood. The panels are then finished with museum-quality wax. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth ocassionally.
Jaya also enjoys creating organic, sculptural pieces in a series called Khel (or Play) that blur the line between metal and clay. These can be free-hanging and allow the play of light to transform a room through the day.
