Jan Jahnke grew up with a passion for making art. Living on her grandparent's farm she formed an appreciation for nature, with all its colors, textures, and patterns. These passions led her to explore materials and techniques, and her connection between nature, paint and emotion was born. Strong compositions with rich surfaces and highly detailed textures are a trademark of Jahnke's work. She applies multiple layers of paint, edits them, and applies more paint. She continues this process of spontaneity and editing seeking an expressive, emotional reaction to the beauty and energy of the natural world. Jan Jahnke earned a BFA from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. After teaching there for numerous years, she now works full time in her Wisconsin studio. Her works are in numerous residential and corporate collections such as The Mayo Clinic and US Chemical.
