Ghostown Woodworks by Rusty Dobbs

Alameda, CA

"Woodworking skipped 1 generation on my dad’s side and two on my mom’s. My grandpa was a finish carpenter who was meticulous and proud that he could crosscut a board faster than the clunky power saws of the day. Having died before I was born I did not get the hand-me-down knowledge from him, I screwed up many a board learning on my own. Having been a carpenter during the summers of the years I lived in Lake Tahoe, I realized I love working with wood and as a carpenter I loved seeing what my hands could create. I also realized that I was far too meticulous and enjoyed joinery way too much to be ok with “just caulk it”. At that time I segued into the surf, skate and snowboard world. I built stuff on the side any chance I got and after 10 years of “hawking the mo” (selling snowboards and such) I had a deep desire to get back to my woodworking roots and took on a kitchen commission. 15 years and as many kitchens later I am well versed in working and manipulating wood into fine furniture and cabinetry with an eye for design. Restaurants, retail store build-outs, travel trailers, kitchen cabinets, furniture… I’m not scared."
