"Spiritography: post-human portraiture where function ends and presence begins."
Dave is a visual artist from Los Angeles, currently based in Dallas, working through Spiritography, a photographic, object-based practice exploring non-human presence within post-industrial material culture. His images are discovered rather than constructed, emerging from rust, damaged metal, weathered paint, discarded vehicles, and other surfaces transformed by use, environment, and time.
In The Spirits of Route 66 and They’re Always Watching Me, Vescio photographs overlooked details encountered along the Route 66 corridor. The work often registers first as abstraction through color, gesture, texture, and material decay; with sustained looking, faces, figures, watchers, and other non-human identities emerge from marks already present within the material.
The finished works are realized as limited-edition photographic objects on ChromaLuxe HD aluminum and museum-grade acrylic. By connecting image, subject, and physical surface, Vescio creates works that occupy a space between photography, abstract visual experience, and post-human portraiture.
