What is your favorite material to work with?

"I am endeared by walnut, the tools sing when cutting this beautiful material."
-- Brian Holcombe Woodworker

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?

"I only hope that they will sit in the chairs and find them as comfortable as I do."
-- Brian Holcombe Woodworker

What motivates and inspires you?

"A quote from Soetsu Yanagi inspires me; "A man of intuition may be defined as one who allows impressions to be forever new: from this point of view, an object of art is created by those who look at it, and a man of intuition is an able artist."
-- Brian Holcombe Woodworker

What makes a space special?

"Equal parts careful planning and creative spontaneity."
-- Brian Holcombe Woodworker

What’s unique about your work?

"I draw influence and technique from traditional Japanese craft along side contemporary industrial design and process to form a unique approach to making furniture."
-- Brian Holcombe Woodworker

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"An idea or creation comes to life very quickly for me, yet that is followed by a process of honing the idea for many months or years through prototyping and refining those prototypes. The resulting piece, which may be made quickly and efficiently, is the result of this process and the many hours of though and experimentation poured into it."
