I started Boldstone in 1998 out of a simple obsession with the patterns that turn up everywhere in nature - ripples left in rock, the curve of a wave just before it breaks, the shadow across a half moon, the spiral inside a shell. I pare those down to their boldest form and carve or cast each piece by hand, finishing them in marble stone patterns, gold leaf, verdigris on copper or hand-painted metallics so the surface reads differently as the light moves across it. Everything is handmade in studio: wall reliefs, sculptural furnishings, and commissions built for one particular wall, courtyard or room. Some of my favourite work has come out of those conversations - a piece for a Knightsbridge apartment, a garden at Chelsea, a 2.75m sculpture for a palace courtyard in Riyadh.IMPACT
