"Time is the most important component in the studio. ATMA ceramics are filled with it so that you can Make Time for you and your loved ones."
After working closely with artists in Europe up until 2007, Marie Martin combined her family’s move to China with the pursuit of her own calling: ceramic. Marie’s journey started in a local studio among Chinese philosophical conversations and methodic learning.
The craftmanship she discovered on her travels around Asia, from textile to religious objects, were vital inspiration alongside the cultures themselves. Witnessing people make time for what matters most to them – celebrate deities, caring for elders – convinced Marie of the importance of the creation process, as much as the finished product.
Marie’s early day of Chinese-inspired ceramic making were built upon and enriched in San Francisco were material exploration and self-expression prevail. At the same time, Marie discovers all the benefits of taking a break, even for a few minutes, from the daily running from work to personal obligations.
The birth of ATMA ceramics is the story of these strands coming together, forming in a collection that is decorative yet functional, an oasis for the overstimulated senses; a celebration of ethnic design enhanced with understated simplicity.
