This work is part of a series of monotypes that start with paper that had been previously worked on - incomplete work or dirty paper - paper that had a previous history - what I call 'reclaimed paper.' The shapes (cut out from paper, sewn collages, and textured wallpaper) were inspired by drawings of my late brother and continue to be a source of inspiration and curiosity for me. This series is an exploration of these forms - layering history to form and manipulate a new future. I love the shapes within shapes that reveal part of the history - the 'new' shapes are where I look for the unknown future.

I like to challenge traditional ways of working and adhering to a singular media. I use various techniques and materials; painting, printmaking, sewing, collage, video, installation, and book arts to reconcile my perceived experience of chaos as intuition; uncertainty and coincidence as order, clarity, harmony, and connection. Through making art I experience disorganization and coherence repeatedly and delightedly - a process that has engaged me for 40-plus years. I have shown regionally for the past 20 years and the residencies, such as the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, New Mexico (1998 and 2008) have challenged my process and provided venus to connect to communities. Show include; monotypes and paintings at the AVA Gallery, Lebanon; installations and collaborative installations at the Flynndog, Burlington; and prints and hair drawings at Burlington City Arts. Residencies include Vermont Studio Week at the Vermont Studio Center in 2018, and a six-month residency at New City Galerie in 2015. Grants awarded include; a Development Grant from the Vermont Arts Council, 2009 to learn letterpress printing; a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council, 2004 to help fund a collaborative video project with Jane Honer and Karen McGregor; Kittredge Foundation Grant, 2002 to learn more printmaking.
