Part of the mindfulness-inspired "Constructs of the Mind" Collection, this piece is about how we cling so tightly to our identifications that they become synonymous with ourselves. When we identify so closely to something, we can feel lost when that attachment is absent or threatened. Like someone with a long career who doesn’t know who they are anymore after they retire, or a sports fan who is devastated after their team loses, they feel like they lose a piece of themselves . The more we detach from our identifications, the closer we get to who we are underneath while also decreasing our chance to be rattled by outside factors. This artwork features sculpted paper stripping away from the canvas as the layers reveal the clean, undisturbed ego below.
