Traditional Middle Eastern weaving, modern weaving, Bohemian style weaving,

Hi, my name is Mahmoud! I am a Syrian fiber artist whose family has been weaving for over 600 years. I carry my family’s heritage, utilizing traditional weaving methods and materials in a modern way. The Syrian Civil War forced me to leave my country, separating me from my family and the looms that held generations of stories. My art reflects this disconnection, using thick, vibrant fibers to portray the trauma and disruptions life throws our way.

When I was 12 years old I started learning how to weave on a large traditional floor loom in my dad's weaving shop. Slowly I became a weaver, and my love for weaving encouraged me to learn to build my own looms for my family as well. I moved to Dubai due to the war when I was a teenager. Seeing work in a different country opened my eyes to explore more types of weaving and art. I expanded beyond my family's traditional weaving to cultivate my own style. I consider my work a mix between Middle Eastern and Bohemian styles.

I work on looms that I design and build specifically for my body and my projects. My tapestries are in galleries, hotels, and private homes throughout the world. I moved to the United States in 2023 and have sold my tapestries to individuals and businesses all over the country.

I am also open to custom orders - designed for your space!

Thank you for reading my story; I hope you find something that makes you happy in what I make.
