Hamimi - Artisan Crochet Lamps

HAMIMI - Designed and Handcrafted in Marrakech. Far from Ordinary.

At Hamimi we offer a fresh take on Moroccan design, capturing the country’s exotic culture and honouring traditional craftsmanship. Hamimi is a boutique brother and sister design brand, with Alex based in Brisbane and Rebecca on the ground in Marrakech, where she works with our team of local artisans that bring our designs to life.

Daily life in Marrakech provides an endless source of creative inspiration – it’s a place where you can have one foot in the very distant past and the other seemingly in the future. Our designs embrace the old and the new, combining traditional materials and techniques with a contemporary sensibility. We appreciate texture and are not afraid of using colour. We like to mix old and new, traditional and modern, to produce items of contemporary yet timeless appeal.

In this age of mass production, we instead focus on handcrafting our products in the traditional artisan way. Each product is invested with human touch – made by hand with heart.

ARTISAN CROCHET LAMPS

Our crochet lamps are handmade by a small community of women in a village just outside Marrakech. By partnering with these women we aim to help keep their traditional skills alive and create a brighter future for them and their families.

Crochet is a craft passed on through generations of women in this village. They typically crochet blankets and clothing for their own use, as well as scull caps, called taqiyah, that are worn by many Moroccan men. To reflect their origin, the sculptural shapes of our lamps are inspired by objects used in daily Moroccan life, like tagines, baskets and pots.

Each Crochet lamp is individually handmade to order. This allows us to offer a wide range of options to suit almost any interior space and style. With a range of models and 16 standard colours (in one or two-colour formats) to choose from the possibilities really are endless.

Each crochet pendant is handmade using silky viscose 'kitan' thread, a textile traditionally used to embellish Moroccan Kaftans. Our current colour collection is inspired by the diversity of Morocco, from its earthy landscapes, vibrant cities, coastal villages, fragrant spices and dark desert night skies.
