For my collages, I use small pieces of paper as my palette and “paint” colorful and detailed pictures. This collage is from my Illumination series. It's composed from images of ancient manuscripts. I consciously chose manuscripts of all different religions, languages and cultures in order pay homage to those who came before and celebrate the uniqueness of our varied heritages. At the same time, it illuminates the human interconnectedness and cultural melding that define our global society.

The collage is coated with many layers of acrylic medium, sprayed with an MSA varnish and buffed to a satiny sheen. The manuscript images have been printed on thin photo paper with archival inks so the piece will not fade. All sides of the piece are fully collaged and this diptych can be displayed as one piece (where the panels are abutted against each other) or as two separate panels.

This is a collage on two panels, each 36" x 36" x 2".

"As a collage and mixed media artist, I create detailed and meticulously constructed artwork from photographs, books, fabric and found objects. I collect things that intrigue me and often keep them for several years before deciding how to best incorporate them into my art.

I would like for viewers to be able to stand at a distance from my artwork and see a beautiful and fascinating composition, which will in turn draw them in for a closer look to reveal the surprise of the composite parts. I use the source materials to convey my cultural heritage and deep sense of history. My artwork is wholly contemporary and global, while at the same time honoring the ethnic and traditional, paying homage to those who came before."
