This sculptural piece is part of limited edition series of sound absorbing wall panels. Each piece is individually numbered, signed, dated and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Each panel is designed to be unique and cannot be precisely replicated. The geometric arrangements are made from the waste material generated from a professional grade furniture studio and gathered over a number of years from early on in my career when I worked for an award winning furniture designer.
All of the blocks used were meticulously and painstakingly collected from trash piles because they were too beautiful to be discarded. They are the literal remnants of some of the most beautiful and well crafted pieces of American made furniture of which now reside all around the world in the homes of celebrities, famous entrepreneurs and politicians alike.
These panels are an homage to the artistry and level of craft that I saw at that company, which consequently inspired my own embarkment into the world of furniture design.
HEMPCRETE is a light weight, carbon negative material that can act as an eco-friendly alternative to concrete. It is composed of industrial hemp shiv, lime binder and sand, which can be specially tailored for particular applications. Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. A list of finishes and colors are available upon request.
It is our first line of furniture and home objects that can be discarded without worry or guilt of polluting the environment or contributing to landfills. Each piece is designed and handcrafted to be heirloom quality while also simultaneously being conscious of the end-of-life cycle that all material objects meet, no matter how far into the future this might be. This furniture can be broken down and disposed of easily with small hand tools and left to decay back into the ground without consequence.
PROCESS: Our hemp furniture is made to order. The raw forms are plastered and polished by hand and each piece will vary slightly in its imperfections. Minimum lead times are 10-14 weeks depending on the time of year (summer / winter). Hempcrete must air dry slowly in order for the material to naturally carbonate by absorbing ambient CO2 and calcifying back into limestone. The process cannot be accelerated artificially.
