The notion of music is often found in Kandinsky’s art, he even gave many of his paintings musical titles such as his Ten Compositions. The rug is designed after a portion of this impressive Composition IX. Comprising many natural shapes and motifs such as the curve, it belongs to the biomorphic abstraction style. Contrast between the sharp and the soft, the symmetrical and the asymmetrical as well as the bright and muted hues of color is notable.
