“A few months ago, MACA @monroeareacouncilforthearts reached out to ask for assistance in project-managing a couple art installations planned for the spring. We were more than happy to come in, collaborate with this amazing group of art lovers and attack two cool, old buildings with buckets of paint; first, Scott and I painted the commercial building from tip to tail, then @nathanbrown77 followed with this amazing art that channels the natural topography of this corridor of East Tennessee.
Nathan finished last night after painting in every weather element over the course of seven days and using 58 different hand-mixed colors to build his gradients. I don’t want to give it away but … can you figure out what iconic Monroe County sites he depicts in his abstract work?
“Dream Cloud” was designed and installed by Nathan Brown, produced by our nonprofit, and funded by MACA, Tennessee Arts Commission and East Tennessee Foundation, with Danny and Debbie Stricklan offering up their wall as the canvas. We at DMA-events, a public art nonprofit are at or nearing the 50-mural mark of installations in more than 20 communities across Tennessee, and it’s crazy to think we’ve been doing this work for five years now in what began as a simple effort to improve the neighborhood we lived in at the time. We always say it truly takes a village for every piece of art to come to life, and when you sit back and look at all the bodies involved in a single piece of public art, it’s inspiring and heartwarming to know that so many people care about their community in such a visceral fashion and want to see it continue to put its best self forward”.
