Ready to hang horizontally or vertically.

We hand-carved these tiles in stoneware clay, then fired, glazed, fired again, and added bits of labradorite and smoky quartz for a mosaic effect. The tiles are set into this vintage Indian wooden dough bowl that was used in the chapati bread making process. It has been given a new bleached finish. Ready to hang, but can also be useful as a catch-all on a large ottoman, coffee table, or near an entryway.

This piece is decorative and is not food safe.

Bold ceramic and mosaic wall art for residential and commercial spaces. Custom projects welcome.

For nearly thirty years, we have been collaborating to make beautiful, cheerful ceramic and mosaic wall art and interior objects.

Nature, texture, and color inspire us and we are known for bold and colorful ceramic and mosaic wall art. Recently we challenged ourselves to grow as artists by reaching out to a new aesthetic.

Our curiosity drew us to look closer at inspirational ceramic artists from decades past. We applied a softer, more muted palette with a more restrained, nearly monochromatic, approach to the glazing. In order to achieve the look of this new work, we moved to a completely new type of clay body as well as a new selection of glazes.

Our work begins with a collaborative process of quick sketches alongside conversations across our studio worktable. Clare begins the work by freehand sketching a design in raw stoneware clay and then hand carves the artwork to completion. The clay artwork is left to dry after which it is bisque fired in the studio kiln.

After the bisque firing, the tile is ready for Romy to hand paint the selected glazes upon it. Then it will be fired again for its second and final firing where the glazes are transformed and vitrified by the heat in the kiln. These tiles are fired to 2232 degrees which creates a very durable piece yet allows for some vibrancy in colors.

We enjoy working with both residential and commercial clients. Custom inquiries are welcome.
