The Progress

San Francisco, CA

The Progress is Nicole Krasinski and Stuart Brioza’s other restaurant, located in fact next door to their famous eatery State Bird Provisions, on Fillmore Street in an old 1911 movie theater of the same name.

Oakland studio Wylie Price designed the two-level interior, with the standout feature being a contrast between one side, with finely contoured wooden slats, and the other main wall's exposed brick and concrete. Dual mezzanines offer a beautiful bird's-eye view over the main dining room.

The curved, ship-hull-like ceiling features the original lathes excavated from layers of plaster and is a showstopper. Custom-built chairs and tables by Kelly Best were designed specifically to flow with the undulating shape of the ceiling, creating an electrifying atmosphere for some of San Francisco's most interesting new cuisine.
