“They’re Always Watching Me, No. 42” is part of Dave Vescio’s Spiritography practice — post-human portraiture where function ends and presence begins.

Discovered within rusted industrial debris and discarded metal surfaces, the photograph initially reads as an abstract composition of blue, black, white, rust-orange, brown, and fractured weathered material. On closer inspection, a face-like presence emerges from the surface. The image was not staged or digitally constructed; the figure already existed within the material and was photographed as found.

The work transforms industrial deterioration into portraiture, inviting viewers to reconsider what is normally ignored or discarded and what forms of memory, identity, or presence may remain embedded within material shaped by time and use.

Produced through archival dye-sublimation on ChromaLuxe® HD aluminum with a satin finish and recessed floating mount, creating a clean, frameless presentation suitable for contemporary residential, hospitality, and commercial interiors. Signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Dimensions: 20 × 15 × 1 in.
Limited edition of 3 total. Only 1 print remaining. Once sold out, the work will not be reissued.

Spiritography: revealing hidden presences within rust, weathered surfaces, and forgotten infrastructure.

Dave Vescio creates Spiritography, a photographic and object-based practice centered on faces, watchers, and presences discovered within rust, damaged metal, weathered paint, and other overlooked surfaces.

Working primarily along the Route 66 corridor, he photographs details that are normally passed by without notice, then transforms them into limited-edition artworks on ChromaLuxe HD aluminum or museum-grade acrylic. The finished pieces occupy a space between photography, painting, and sculptural object.

His work invites viewers to move beyond abstraction and material decay toward the experience of something looking back.
