“They’re Always Watching Me, No. 1” is part of Dave Vescio’s Spiritography practice — post-human portraiture where function ends and presence begins.
Discovered within weathered urban and industrial debris, the photograph initially reads as an abstract composition of green, orange, brown, black, blue, yellow, and corroded surface. On closer inspection, a face-like presence emerges from the layered deterioration. The image was not staged or digitally constructed; the figure already existed within the material and was photographed as found.
The work transforms damaged surface into portraiture, inviting viewers to reconsider what is normally ignored or discarded and what forms of memory, identity, or presence may remain embedded within material shaped by time and use.
Produced through archival dye-sublimation on ChromaLuxe® HD aluminum with a satin finish and recessed floating mount, creating a clean, frameless presentation suitable for contemporary residential, hospitality, and commercial interiors.
