Currents Between Us is an original circular abstract painting combining flowing, landscape-inspired forms with a richly tactile mineral surface.
I created it with acrylic, mineral pigments and sand on a round stretched canvas, allowing fine granulations and subtle relief to become part of the image. Silvery greys, charcoal and warm champagne-gold tones shift gently with the light, giving the painting a different presence depending on the viewing angle and surrounding materials.
The composition has two distinct movements, separated by an open, softly illuminated passage. I was interested in the relationship between these forms: how they seem to respond to one another without losing their individual direction.
This comes from a recurring theme in my practice — the invisible ways people shape one another. I use the language of natural landscapes, water currents and geological formations to explore these connections without representing them literally.
At 11.8 inches in diameter, the painting offers a compact, sculptural presence. Its circular geometry introduces a softer counterpoint to architectural lines, while the restrained mineral palette can sit naturally alongside wood, stone, plaster and other tactile finishes.
The work is suited to intimate residential settings, thoughtfully curated gallery walls and smaller spaces within hospitality or workplace projects.
