Vesna Bricelj's work as a verre eglomise artist is a modern interpretation of an ancient technique rooted in pharaonic Egypt, and resurrected in 18thCentury France, the Art Deco period and... the immediate present.
As a decorative painter for some of the top interior designers in the country, and always on the lookout for new ways to entice her demanding audience, she started delving into the magical and esoteric world of back painted and gilded glass.
Its seductive luminosity, whether used for decorative panels, tabletops, backsplashes or wall panels, has been enthusiastically incorporated into both luxe residential and commercial interiors.
Her tabletops for Chanel can be found in boutiques worldwide, while her projects for architectural interiors are as varied as her private clients. A recent project, an abstract glass painting, was commissioned for Hudson Yards, in the heart of midtown Manhattan, as the focal point of a private club entrance.
She develops each project in close collaboration with the client, who can select a surface from her ever evolving original sample portfolio, or commission something created especially for a particular interior.
As a visual artist, she has also been working on a personal series of glass art pieces inspired by the organic games that nature plays, and the photographs she takes. These, in addition to her abstract mono prints on paper, are the output of of a parallel but totally independent creative journey on which she embarked while working on client commissions.They have no formal or commercial restraints except for her imagination
Born in Italy,, she grew up in Buenos Aires, and is a graduate of the Rhode island School of Design and the Van Der Kelen Institute in Belgium.Her studio is currently in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
