Melanie Biehle

Everett, WA

"“How my paintings make you feel and what memories they bring to mind is what makes them special for you.”q"
Melanie Biehle is an American artist who paints what places feel like. She explores shapes, patterns, and color palettes inspired by urban architecture, city skylines, open landscapes, and coastal shorelines. The artist studied abstract painting and composition at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle and lists artists Richard Diebenkorn, Lee Krasner, and Joan Mitchell as major inspirations.

Melanie creates abstract paintings for private collectors, art consultants, interior designers, and hoteliers. Each piece is painted with the intention to calm or energize a space through the use of shape, color, and form. She licenses much of her work for print reproductions with high quality interior design partners. Along with creating art for residential and commercial spaces around the world, the artist partners with companies who want to elevate their events, products, and marketing by commissioning unique original artwork. Melanie’s work has been commissioned, purchased, and licensed for photography backgrounds, digital art installations, apparel, and stationery.

Melanie was born in rural Louisiana and has spent most of her adult life on the West Coast. She currently lives and paints by a lake near Seattle with her husband, son, dog, and cat. No matter where her journeys take her, Louisiana, the Pacific Northwest, and Southern California will always live inside her.

“My greatest hope is that you feel connected to my work. Ultimately, my abstract paintings are emotion. Each one is uniquely created to bring a particular type of energy to the spaces they occupy. Seaside color palettes can relax and calm; bold and bright abstract cityscapes can enliven and energize. Everyone can have their own unique experience with the paintings.”

Q&A

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"I find that the best thing I can do while I’m painting is to stay out of my own way. If I get too caught up in thinking or trying to force something to work on the canvas, it never flows. For me, trusting my intuition leads to stronger work."
