"Canvas With Movement® Fiber Art"
As a self-taught painter, Lauren was inspired to create an alternative to canvas art for her home. By suspending hundreds of single fiber strands, Lauren builds each Canvas With Movement® tapestry, and deepens the composition by adding multiple layers of dye, often times dipping each strand one by one. The result is a one-of-a-kind wall hanging that brings interest and texture to any space.

In 2014, Lauren shared a photo to Instagram and received an overwhelming response to her first wall hanging. The six foot wide, dip-dyed tapestry was an overnight motivator to begin offering custom fiber art to friends and family. Since then Lauren has become an expert in her art form by executing meticulous dye designs for spaces worldwide, including pieces more than 20 feet in width and 10 feet high. Lauren uses her own signature line of wool strands that are specifically spun to withstand the dyeing technique she has developed. Sourced from a small, eco-friendly ranch in Wyoming, the signature fibers are hand-spun at a local mill and shipped directly to her studio in Dallas, Texas.

Inspired by the abstract and organic dye designs of her tapestries, Lauren offers her paintings as a complement to her fiber art collections. From Canvas With Movement® fiber art, to her large-scale paintings, Lauren’s artwork is incorporated into homes, restaurants, hotels and event spaces by top interior designers around the world.

Each month, a new collection of fresh and original artwork is made available to Designers, Art Consultants and the public. Learn more about the process, inspiration and when Lauren’s next collection will be available for purchase at www.LaurenWilliamsART.com or on Instagram @LaurenWilliamsART

What is your favorite material to work with?

"I work with an eco-friendly mill in Wyoming to spin my signature Canvas With Movement® wool strands. I designed the strands to withstand my dye techniques without fraying, thinning or fading. I love working with wool that I know comes from a family owned ranch who believes in animal friendly practices in the care of their sheep. The pure wool has the most organic smell and feel and is such a joy to work with."

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?

"I love that the initial instinct when people see my art is to run their fingers through the strands and experience the sensation of the art."
-- Lauren Williams

What motivates and inspires you?

"Blank walls have always been something that inspires me. When I see a blank wall, I immediately want to create the perfect piece of art for the space. It is how I get through creative blocks. I am also continuously inspired by the dramatic beauty of the west coast and pacific ocean."

What makes a space special?

"Art! I am always drawn to a space when art is included in the design. You learn a lot about a person or a family when you know what style of art resonates with them."
-- Lauren Williams

What’s unique about your work?

"As an alternative to canvas art, I create a canvas but with movement by suspending hundreds of single strands from a piece of walnut wood. Once the strands are suspended to form my canvas, I use dyes and paints to create various designs. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and is built with 100% wool strands and hand cut walnut wood."

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"The most crucial part of creating my artwork is allowing the art to come alive on its own. By attempting to control the hundreds of suspended strands, I threaten the beauty of the piece. When I allow freedom to the strands, the dye design feels organic and comes to life in the most natural way."
-- Lauren Williams

What funny moments, unexpected surprises, or obstacles have you encountered?

"A career as an artist has definitely been an unexpected path! I feel very blessed to make art everyday!"
