Joyce Dallal

Los Angeles, CA

“Cultural identity and the human ramifications of political and social events are the inspiration for my work. I employ a variety of media, from small prints and collages to large installations and public commissions that often involve a public participatory component. Over the years my work has developed along two distinct tracks. One is based in my own experience, and the other is related to specific sites and communities; this latter track has formed the basis for my public projects. The two realms are connected by my interest in examining the ways identities mix, evolve, and are shaped by contemporary culture.”

“Joyce Dallal is the recipient of several grants and fellowships, among them a National Endowment for the Arts Regional Arts Fellowship in Photography, a Brody Arts Fellowship, and a City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, and her temporary and permanent public art projects have been commissioned by the Los Angeles International Airport, the Los Angeles Public Libraries, the Community Redevelopment Agency, and the Department of Cultural Affairs. She received her Masters in Fine Art from USC and is a professor at El Camino College in Southern California.”
