British Nationality, born in Brussels. English mother, father of Russian origin. Lived in London and New York. Resident in France. Married to an American.

Present in numerous collections in the United States, Japan, Latin America, Israel, the Middle East, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Ceylan, Australia, South Africa, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, etc.
The artist based himself in New York at this time, and his reputation as a painter grew, as critics said of his work: Stern magnificently presented a "private yet universal world of intertwined dream and reality, expressive always of human mood and thought;" as another admired ""his draftsmanship, awareness of tradition and modernism, a perfect sense of color, and a mastery of composition combined with a touch of humor and above all, humanity.""
