This art piece is a combination of reclaimed barnwood and a tree sculpture that was cut from 1/16" thick raw steel. There are multiple steps involved in the making and planning of this unique art piece.
The first part of the process involved developing the tree drawing, which I was able to duplicate onto the sheet of steel. This was cut with a plasma cutting tool to create the tree sculpture. I then took the steel and gave it an aged looking patina. The raw color steel with traces of rust to give it a natural earthy feel to the steel. I also clear coated the steel to preserve it. I then built the artwork on a solid backer board with a Black Ebony stained hardwood frame. Next, I applied all the barnwood strips that vary in thickness from 1/8” to 3/4" to give the art piece some depth.
All the strips of wood are completely natural in color, there are no stains that has been applied to the inner pieces. I then applied two coats of Zero VOC water based sealer to preserve the art piece. Once finished, I was able to drop the steel tree sculpture into place and installed another frame that locks it in place.
Each art piece is hand signed and dated in the back and I also make a custom made laser engraved wood name tag on the side of the piece.
I also include a heavy duty mounting bracket.
