Meet the Creator
Wescover creator since 2019
We're makers of contemporary, one-of-a-kind, stoneware pottery. Our mission is to create art, beauty, and comfort for YOUR daily life through the pottery we hand-built and fire in our rural, NW Indiana home studio.

Steven Skinner and Louise Belmont-Skinner opened BlackTree Studio Pottery in 2008 after moving to rural northwest Indiana from Chicago where they had lived 30 years. Steven and Louise are both trained artists attending The School of the Art Institute in Chicago. They run the studio as a team and every day discuss the concepts, designs, and business behind their pottery. They have taken on distinct roles: Steven creates most of the pottery and Louise photograghs their work, manages the business including The Potter's Wife which exclusively sells BlackTree Studio pottery.
