Leah Tumerman carves out narrative scenes on canvas taking cues from intuitively applied under-paintings. Working predominately with highly pigmented acrylics, she watches for the emergence of figurative subject matter and then edits, often utilizing drawing materials, towards an oblique finish. Leah loosely illustrates the female form in collage or communion, reveling in the implied relationship between forms based on their physical posture and placement alone. The work investigates how women relate to one another, but also, posture in solitude or independence. These are conversations about identity and belonging.
Using playful symbolism and a touch of make believe, the finishing details strive to connect and include. Leah also enjoys painting on walls - she’s available for both public exterior and private interior mural commissions.
