Constructed from one continuous strand of dark annealed steel, this wire sculpture casts beautiful shadows and activates any space through its minimal, gestural design.
Designing and fabricating these three designs for PS Art Consulting to put in Epicurean Hotel Atlanta was an honor and a pleasure. One of my favorite things about wire work is distilling a concept down to its essentials, down to something I can express simply, concisely, and beautifully. Amplification through Simplification, as McCloud puts it.
In the process of making these, I went through a ton of drafts and designs. Plates with silverware, different types of food, etc. etc.. Even when I settled on what to make, I went through many variations (especially the glass for the wine+glass design, did it 10 different ways). By engaging and reengaging with a subject, I can refine it down to something essential.
My sculptures were installed by the talented people at PS Art Consulting, who combined them with other artists' works to create the beautiful gallery walls pictured, one in each suite.
My wire sculptures are best placed somewhere with a plain background and direct light - this will create the best shadows. The dark annealed steel has been treated with an acrylic coating and is safe to place in any environment.
Mounting is via a single screw point. Distance from wall is customizable
