Susan Weinthaler's "Echo 01, 2014" greets visitors in the lobby at One Madison in Manhattan. She uses what she calls "bits" in much of her work, (mirrors, photos printed on aluminum, flocking), which are unique object outfitted with a magnet on the back that can be moved or grouped together.
The idea is that it’s a flexible system for manipulating artistic information. The magnets offer the perfect mounting system for infinite potential configurations when placed on a steel canvas. Bits are not meant to be still, they are meant to be perpetually deconstructed and reconstructed. It’s the whole point.
