Aziza Gate, 2004

Description
This Installation is now 13 years old but still exists at Eden Project in Cornwall. It is made from pieces of wood fashioned to desired length and shape; then drawn on, and burnt. This installation is reminiscent of an ancient altar (re)created to fit into its’ surrounding location.

Meet the Creator

"El Anatsui (born 1944) is a Ghanaian sculptor active for much of his career in Nigeria. He has drawn particular international attention for his iconic ““bottle-top installations””, distinctive large-scale assemblages of thousands of pieces of aluminum sourced from alcohol recycling stations and sewn together with copper wire, transformed into metallic cloth-like wall sculptures in a way that can ““draw connections between consumption, waste, and the environment.”"
