Public Sculptures by Roxy Paine seen at Beverly Gardens Park, Beverly Hills - Erratic

Erratic

Erratic is a 7' x 15' Stainless Steel sculpture that welcomes guests at the Beverly Gardens Park. In geology, the term "erratic" refers to a rock that has been carried by a glacier hundreds of miles away from its original geographic location. Erratic's slick exterior leaves its origin unexplained. It is a boulder displaced from somewhere between a mountain and a steel factory. This Roxy Paine sculpture highlights our struggle to find the balance between the natural and the unnatural. Existing with the earth, to Paine, is not about extinguishing our presence in it, but instead, about finding the best mutual condition between humans and their planet.
