TOTEM - Public Sculptures

Featured In Greeley, CO

Item details

Totem is part of the Greeley Urban Trees Program that commissioned a few dozen artists to design sculptures for installation along the 8th Ave. corridor. Three giant rabbits in different rest and motion states are stacked in totem pole fashion, alluding to the classical totem poles carved out of giant cedar trees by the Northwest Coastal Indians. The big white rabbit at the bottom is sitting quietly on the lookout below two smaller carefree jumping rabbits.

Meet the Creator
As a sculptor practically born on a bicycle in the Netherlands, I specialize in kinetic public art showcasing bicycle parts.

Patricia Vader’s first love was astronomy which she practiced at Yale University and the Space Telescope Science Institute before embracing her own telluric world in metal sculpture. A large if not cosmological scale remains imperative as reflected in her outdoor public artworks that command attention with bright colors and inventive kinetics. Her work engages people of all ages and backgrounds in a joyful manner and speaks to their imagination and sense of play. It has won many prizes and awards. Her inspiration derives from the natural rural surroundings of her studio in unincorporated Martinez, California, which is open to the public.
