San Francisco Bay Area, San Francisco, CA
Islais is a new artwork created in collaboration with the Bayview community, Port of San Francisco and San Francisco Arts Commission. The sculpture is the centerpiece of a new one-acre public open space along the southern bank of Islais Creek in San Francisco’s south east waterfront. The sculpture’s shape refers to the historical coastal outline of the Creek’s different estuary outlets before it became a single channel. This shifting of the waterways suggests how rivers are like the communities that grow around them each evolving over time.
