Chico Santos is a video and installation artist based in Southern Brazil whose work addresses the encroachment of urban areas onto the natural landscape. He has exhibited internationally, and his trip to Seattle to create work for Duwamish Revealed was his first time in the U.S. Chico created a tiny city on top of a fallen tree that alluded to the many layers of settlement and history on the site, and made a statement about the charming and destructive duality of human nature.

Urban growth research on natural areas, creating visual narratives

Chico Santos (1982) Brazilian born in Paraná, an artist who graduated from the University of Estadual in Londrina and then took a post-graducate diploma in interactive media, is an observer of the world around and the changes that have transformed it, more particularly the spread of cities and the encroachment of urban areas onto the natural landscape. He records generic architectural forms, turning them into miniature models, building up a work based on repetition and proliferation. Through this process, his work is repeated to infinity, thereby exploring the possibilities of video, sculpture and also installation
