Ambient Painting was designed to provide a kaleidoscopic window into an alternative universe in The Interval at Long Now. This work helps create an environment that inspires conversations surrounding long-term thinking and responsibility. Brian Eno brought together sound and light to complement Long Now and connect to their library project and monumental 10,000 Year Clock project. While the piece was created with a custom style for the venue, it’s versatile enough to work in a number of spaces including private homes. The constantly changing colors generate based off an algorithm that creates an endless combination of possibilities through colors, compositions, and textures.

Meet the Creator

"Brian Eno is an English musician, composer, record producer, singer, writer, and visual artist. He is known as one of the principal innovators of generative painting and of ambient music, the genre he defined. Eno’s artwork is dedicated almost exclusively to the possibilities provided by the medium of light and his installations of sound and vision have been redefining the architectural spaces. Using algorithms and ambient sounds to create hypnotic and kaleidoscopic creations, Eno has built a name for himself through a wide variety of recordings and projection making projects in such locations as San Francisco and Sydney, Australia."
