Rachel David, raised in Maryland and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana since 2005, is a blacksmith, sculptor, designer and maker. Her blacksmithing practice is holistic; encompassing art, furniture, architectural elements, activism, collaborations and gardening. Primarily the work focuses on social and environmental justice, community, and communication both personal and social.
Rachel has been the visiting artist at SIU Carbondale (IL), NOCCA the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (LA), The Crucible (CA), and Community-First Forge (TX). She will be teaching at Haystack (ME), Peters Valley (NJ), Appalachian Center for Craft (TN), and the New Agrarian School (MT). Her most recent endeavor has been curating the exhibitions Nu Iron Age in 2017 and in 2019, Meta: Formation: Experiments and Rituals. Rachel has shown nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Her work has been published in books and magazines including Ironwork Today 4, Imago Mundi; Reparations, and (T)Here Magazine and collected by the City of New Orleans, the Simone Benetton Foundation, and numerous private collectors.
