Gradient Shou Sugi Ban, wood artwork

This piece is inspired by a Japanese torch technique called Shou Sugi Ban which is an ancient way of preserving wood from the outdoor environment. I decided to put my own spin on it by giving it a gradient look; it showcases the different stages of the wood being torched from light to dark charcoal.
The wood used for this art piece is Reclaimed Douglas Fir Beams that are cut into blocks that measure 4-5/8" x4-5/8" x 1-1/8" deep. They are Glued to a maple plywood backer board with a special adhesive that is really strong that will never come apart. The frame is made of Poplar hardwood stained in ebonized finished. The entire piece was sprayed in a low VOC water based sealer to preserve the look of the wood and to give it a zero maintenance finish.

Each art piece is hand signed and dated in the back and I also make a custom made laser engraved wood name tag on the side of the piece.
I also include a heavy duty aluminum z channel mounting bracket for super easy wall installation.
