This double-sided sliding panel for a new Salt Spring Island home is inspired by the Sabina's relief printmaking background: the hallway side, referencing the block or the carved side, is expressed in relief; and, the study side of the panel references the pulled print - the artist's proof.
The relief side with its depths of surfaces, colours and materials is sculptural; the forms on the smooth surface of the study side are expressed in line work and aluminum inlays, representing the print pulled from the block.
Vertical walnut 'handles' align with the architecture: solid beams, transom window, and aluminum window frames. The colours and materials selected complement the interior furniture and finishes of the study.
Walnut, painted wood composite, satin aluminum.
