The Ethereal Fuji Dawn — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Mount Fuji in Gold and Silver

Price €335

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): Mount Fuji (富士) in the fuji-e (富士絵) tradition — celadon, blush and haze-blue with a silver-and-platinum summit, woven across warm gold silk. Seamless envelope back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For warm-neutral rooms and natural oak. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Fuji-e. The sacred mountain in silk. The Japanese tradition of depicting Mount Fuji as an object of quiet contemplation — realised here not in ink but in silk and precious metallic thread. Against a warm gold silk ground, the silhouette of Fujisan rises in muted celadon, pale blush and haze-blue, its snow-capped summit threaded in shimmering silver and platinum that catches light like frost at first sun. The atmospheric, watercolour-like gradation of colour is not printed — it is woven, thread by thread. The gold gives the composition its dawn. The silver gives the summit its frost. A pillow for warm-neutral interiors, aged brass, natural oak, Venetian plaster — and a luminous counterpoint to charcoal or forest green. Quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
