The Enji-Shima — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Table Runner, Stripe in Burgundy and Ivory - Linens & Bedding
Price €325
Enji-iro. The colour of ancient ink. The deep burgundy historically produced from safflower in Edo-period Japan — between red and purple, with complete authority. The foundation is dyed in enji-iro, the colour that appears in the robes of Buddhist monks, the lacquerwork of ceremonial objects, and the most restrained end of the Japanese aristocratic palette. Across this ground, horizontal Shima relief stripes are precision-woven in contrasting ivory silk thread — each stripe raised from the surface in subtle relief. A loom set to tolerances contemporary mass production does not attempt. The burgundy gives the composition its depth. The ivory stripes give it its discipline. A runner for a table that is used every day: the stripe is simple, the silk is not. The runner is lined in undyed silk to protect the face. No metal touches the visible silk. Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Each piece arrives with its own passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam.
