An original, one-of-a-kind painting created entirely with natural inks handmade by the artist. The colors in this piece are made from materials gathered and collected from the landscape, including Indian paint fungus, sumac, and sulfur from the Klickitat River.

Every pigment is created by hand through a process of gathering, extracting, and transforming these natural materials into living color. The resulting inks carry a sense of place and a quiet connection to the natural world, bringing an earthy, grounding presence into the environment.

Color from nature, art from alchemy

Molly Holmlund is an artist, ink maker, and educator whose work is rooted in the plants, minerals, and changing colors of the Columbia River Gorge. She forages natural materials from the landscape and transforms them into handmade inks and pigments.
Her practice explores the space between art and ecology, allowing the qualities of each material to shape the work. Through making and teaching, Molly uses color as a way to cultivate curiosity, connection, and a deeper relationship with place.
