Long Furoshiki Bag Handles (Patchin) - Storage

Price €50

Patchin are the wooden handles that turn a furoshiki into a bag. Two shaped pieces of hardwood, joined by a cloth loop; the corners of a folded cloth are threaded through, and the bag is made. No knot, no clasp, and the whole surface of the cloth stays visible and unmarked. The long Patchin suits a 70 × 70 cm furoshiki, a large scarf or a length of heritage textile: a bag for the market, the beach or a day of travel, folded flat again by evening. Renaras keeps Patchin in stock; they dispatch within one business day from the atelier in Amsterdam. For a 50 × 50 cm cloth, the small Patchin is the better fit. Product type Furoshiki bag handles (Patchin), long Material Hardwood, in a light natural or dark tea-stain finish; cloth loop Suits Furoshiki and cloths of about 70 × 70 cm and larger Dimensions 24.5 × 4.5 × 1 cm each Care Wipe with a dry cloth; keep away from water SKU HDL-LONG-PATCHIN Renaras publishes a free illustrated guide to furoshiki wrapping, with the Patchin fold among its pages.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
