A black bone inlay round side table with brass dot inlay, made by hand in India. Art deco geometry in a drum form with no legs and no visible joinery.
The pattern is set piece by piece. Every ivory dash is a chip of buffalo bone, cut, shaped, and laid into the resin ground by hand before the whole surface is sanded flat and polished. The brass dots are inlaid the same way, cut and seated individually. Nothing here is printed, transferred, or moulded.
The vertical dashes run the full height of the drum and continue across the top in horizontal rows, so the pattern shifts as you walk around it. It reads as a solid dark cylinder from across a room and resolves into detail up close.
Black and ivory is the version of this craft most people recognise. The brass is what makes this one uncommon. It picks up warm light in a way bone alone does not, which is why it sits well against wood, plaster, and stone rather than fighting them.
Because the drum has no legs and no visible joinery, it works in tight spots where a four-leg table looks cluttered. Beside a sofa, next to a reading chair, or as a bedside table where floor space is short.
