Underlying structure and surface texture.

(b. 1979) is an American contemporary abstract painter living and working outside of Baltimore, Maryland.

His paintings revolve around the intersection of defined, planned forms, and spontaneity. Colors, shapes, textures and marks are layered over one another and often excavated back through, revealing a deep history of the process involved in the work. Often relying on a formal or informal underlying grid structure, a recognizable architecture runs through much of the work. As in the organic process of living a rich, complex, unpredictable life, the pieces are metaphorical in the way that they are built up and torn down simultaneously over time- the end result often far different from the initial concept or plan.
