Bone inlay mirror with twin Moroccan style arches and a hand cut floral border. A black and white wall mirror for a bathroom, entryway or bedroom.
❀ Cut, shaped and engraved
Every flower, leaf and stem on this frame is a separate piece of buffalo bone, cut to shape and set into a dark ground. Look closely at the macro photograph and you will see the veins running through each leaf. Those are engraved into the bone by hand after the piece is cut, one leaf at a time.
The pattern is Mughal floral, the same vocabulary of vine and blossom worked into Indian inlay for centuries. The twin arch is the ogee form found across Moroccan, Mughal and Persian architecture, which is why it reads as at home in a Moroccan or boho interior as it does in a traditional one.
