Q&A

How do your pieces come to life? Tell us one interesting thing about your creative process?

"Much like a forager, my process begins by making lots of pieces of ceramic which I cut and mold by hand. When my baskets are full, I arrange the pieces into designs and compositions. Movement and rhythm are important qualities in my work — I feel a piece is done when I can feel it moving."

Q&A

What do you want people to do or feel when they encounter your creations?

"I love to put people into a meditative trance with my work, to calm and soothe their spirits."

Q&A

What is your favorite material to work with?

"I am a polygamist when it comes to materials. Although my main medium is clay, I work with other natural mediums that compliment my aesthetic: flowers and leaves, canvas, earth pigments, and wood."

Q&A

What motivates and inspires you?

"A field of yellow daisies can fill me with ideas for months. Nature is definitely my primary muse, as well as music."

Q&A

What makes a space special?

"Spaces are vessels for people and their minds, so what makes a space special to me is when it is conducive to positive thinking. My work tends to work well in intimate, cozy spaces where people relax and rejuvenate: bedrooms, living dwellings, meditation rooms, wellness rooms, baths or saunas."

Q&A

What’s unique about your work?

"I take a painterly approach to ceramics, which is uncommon in a medium that has been defined by the vessel. I literally paint with clay: my ceramic murals and mandalas are brush strokes translated into sculptural reliefs. Contemporary ceramic discourse largely focuses on the vessel, and I'm steering the conversation into new territory."
