Simone Shubuck creates riotously colorful mixed-media paintings primarily on paper. Her background as a florist and gardener directly informs her work as she combines specific images of plants and flowers with fantastical figures and motifs, creating a visual language all her own. The humble materials she works with-paper, oil sticks, pencil and spray paint-are used to form an intriguing blend of mark making simultaneously painfully slow and impulsively raw.
Simone Shubuck (b. 1969) has exhibited at Corbett vs Dempsey, Chicago, Susie Q, Zurich, Jack Hanley Gallery, San Franscisco and Kantor/Feuer Gallery, Los Angeles.
