"Joyful and vibrant oil paintings that bridge the gap between realism and the abstract"
Since I was a child, I loved to draw and paint, but put it on the back burner for many years because I was trying to be practical. I became a computer programmer and then a project manager in IT, but always felt like kind of an imposter in those worlds. I re-discovered my passion for painting in my late thirties, around 1998, after my third son was born, and I had a series of unfortunate illnesses, which made me stay home and re-calibrate my life. I started taking figure drawing classes which led to portrait classes and painting classes. I was blessed to have a wonderful teacher in a phenomenal master painter Christopher Zhang and I studied with him for about 10 years on the CT shoreline . I did a LOT of portraits in light, figure work and still life in those years and I credit Chris for teaching me about using bold colors, strong brushstrokes, form and .composition. Chris used to say that you can always paint abstract after you know what you are doing, but learn to paint realistically first. I painted in my dark attic, then moved to a dark room over our garage. I painted in a lot of groups and did local shows on the CT shoreline. I taught a few kids and adults to paint and had some fun.
Then, in 2015, my husband got a new job opportunity in Chandler, AZ and we decided to take a leap and move out to Phoenix, which turned out to be a real game changer for me and for my art. For the first time, I had a light filled studio and jaw dropping landscapes all around me. I immersed myself in painting landscapes and they just fill my heart with joy. I love to paint sunsets, mountains, beach and ocean vistas! Whenever I travel, I take a lot of pictures and then I rush home to my easel. I also love to paint flowers, fruit, still life, and people that inspire me, and I find inspiration in everything! I feel blessed and lucky to be painting every day! I also do a lot of meditation, yoga, and I practice Reiki healing, so there is an uplifting and energetic focus in my work. My goal is to uplift and spread light.
